Real Ballot Access, Real Choice
The right to vote doesn't mean much if there's no one you want to vote for.
Thanks to the efforts of dozens of volunteers, the Libertarian candidates gained ballot access for this election cycle. This means that you will have a real choice in 2010. Now the question is, will you still have a choice going forward?
While Lex Green and I are running to win, we understand the uphill battle that Libertarian candidates face. We spent several months and a great deal of emotional and monetary capital just getting our names on the ballot, time and energy which would have been better spent on campaigning. We would not be honest if we did not admit that the odds are against an outright Libertarian victory.
That said, even without an outright Win on November 2nd, the Libertarians can still gain an important strategic victory, a victory that positions the Libertarians to run much more effectively going forward.
By winning just 5% of the vote in this election cycle, the Libertarians gain full Party status, and a seat at the table. This means that we will be able to run candidates for local offices. This means that we will be able to focus on campaigning, rather than on petitioning. This means that you will have more choices in more races. Politics is a marathon, not a sprint, and 5% gets the Libertarians into the race.
5% is an achievable goal, and it is a goal worth achieving. Lex Green and I are asking for your help in achieving this goal. We can win in this election, even without "winning." When you go into the polling booth, please remember 5% for the Libertarians, 5% for Lex Green and Ed Rutledge, 5% so that you have a real choice going forward, 5% to win.
