Libertarian Gubernatorial candidate Lex Green has released his proposed budget for Illinois’ fiscal year 2011. The detailed budget, which saves almost $10 Billion over last year, was prepared by the candidate himself and is available on his web site, www.electlex.com. Even though his goal is to reduce the mission of the state, this budget, which he proposes to be passed this year before his election, leaves almost all programs in place. Lex achieves most of his savings by rolling back many programs to their 2008 levels or relying on numbers provided by the Illinois Policy Institute.

“Some of the biggest savings occur in the State Board of Education. By changing the GSA formula, I managed to make the system more fair”, says Lex Green. In his calculations, the state share of education money is set at a dollar amount per pupil. This simplification makes the money follow the child, while putting control over how the money is spent back in the hands of local districts.

Mr. Green states, “This budget proposal is a good start, but there is still room for improvement. If I had more resources, I am certain I could find additional savings”. Lex Green also encourages citizen input. If anyone would like to send suggestions, please us the contact information on his website or send their suggestions to their state representatives. It is hoped that current legislators will adopt all or part of this budget in order to bring a balanced budget back to the state.
