The question exists because we have never had a Libertarian Illinois government to compare to. Although we don't like what we've had for the last several decades, will having a new party in charge be any different?
Even though we can't give any assurances, we have several things we can count on. First, the Libertarian Party of Illinois is THE party of principle. That means that you will get honesty and consistency. The LP of Illinois doesn't have a big tent. Libertarians may disagree on one issue or another, but if it doesn't protect freedom and property, then it isn't Libertarian, period. It should also be mentioned that if it is not constitutional, then it doesn't matter how popular the idea is, it just isn't going to fly.
Ok, but what about spending and taxes? What are you going to do? In essence we already have the answer. Your money is your property and we want to protect your property. We have to reduce or eliminate taxes. In these difficult times, it is not the government that needs help. It is the citizens who need a break. Taxpayers need relief, and the only way to do that is to cut spending.
Spending in Illinois has been on the increase for many decades. Some people say it will take just as long to cut it back. Unfortunately we no longer have that amount of time. With over $120 billion in debt, and all of that already spent or promised, we can't afford to continue this spend lust even for another year. The longer we wait, the more drastic the cuts will finally have to be.
So now you can see that as a Libertarian Governor, I am going to have to bear the burden of making difficult corrections to the horrible judgment of Governors past. It will be a time of deep cost cutting with a goal of providing tax relief to those that really need it. It isn't the type of governance that we are used to, but that is what you can expect.
